(Anadolu Ajansı) Toros Tarım acquired 70 percent of the biogas and organic fertiliser producer Gönen Yenilenebilir Enerji Üretim A.Ş.

Toros Tarım Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. acquired 70 percent of the biogas and organic fertiliser producer Gönen Yenilenebilir Enerji Üretim A.Ş. According to the statement made by Toros Tarım, Tekfen Holding’s subsidiary with a 99.98 percent stake, has acquired 70 percent of Gönen Yenilenebilir Enerji. The share transfer will take place following the approval of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA).

At Gönen Integrated Facilities, which produce renewable energy and organic fertilisers with the integration of biogas and fertiliser, organomineral fertiliser production will also begin with the completion of the ongoing additional investments. Thus, while Toros Tarım expands its capacity in the organomineral market it entered two years ago, it will respond to the changing needs of farmers by adding organic fertiliser to its product portfolio.

Tekfen Holding Chairman of the Board Murat Gigin stated that Toros Tarım supports its leadership in the fertiliser sector with its product diversity and that it constantly develops its current portfolio according to the changing needs of farmers. Emphasizing that fertiliser is one of the most important elements of a sustainable future in the food industry, Gigin articulated that agricultural lands in Turkey are getting poorer each day in terms of organic content, and that Toros Tarım added organomineral fertilisers to its existing fertiliser portfolio two years ago to compensate for this deficiency.

Gigin said, “We evaluated our decision to enter organic fertiliser production not only in the context of an investment in a developing market, but also as a contribution to the sustainability of our country’s agriculture. We will be adding the electricity generation capacity of 37.4 megawatts at Gönen Integrated Facilities to the electricity generation capacity we have at Samsun and Mersin facilities, and the carbon footprint of the group will decrease by 70 thousand tonnes/year thanks to the production process at Gönen Integrated Facilities.”

“Increasing our product range will be one of our priorities!”

Hakan Göral, Chairman of the Board at Toros Tarım, pointed out the importance of ensuring the safety of raw materials in the fertiliser industry and noted that the incorporation of Gönen Enerji paved the way for organomineral fertilisers for Toros Tarım. Stating that organomineral fertilisers are one of the fields they want to grow, Göral added, “This investment will contribute to the specialisation of our factories on a product basis and to our competitiveness in the market. Increasing our product range will also be one of our priorities in the upcoming period.”

On the other hand, Gönen Yenilenebilir Enerji Üretim A.Ş.’s founding partner Alper Önoğlu stated that they aimed to establish environmentally friendly and sustainable facilities with both their product and production models from the very beginning. Önoğlu said, “We have implemented this exemplary facility by using 100% domestic technologies that we have developed as a result of our R&D studies that we have been carrying out since 2009 within Altaca Enerji. Merging with Toros Tarım, the leading company in the fertiliser industry in Turkey with its high quality standards, corporate structure, and values, is in perfect harmony with our goal and vision. We believe that this decision will lead to important developments for the future for both companies.”
